3 Strategies to Enhance Your Summer Experience

Summer is about halfway through, which means that you have a whole other half to enjoy in the coming weeks, especially as we begin to really emerge from this two-plus-year pandemic. While I am a big fan of the strategies to reduce technology fatigue at work, I want to encourage several hacks outside of work so that you can take full advantage of this season. Remember, life is short and yours (or those around you) might change in a flash, so please take advantage of yours while you have it!

Here are several opportunities to consider:

  1. Plan a Close, Weekend Getaway. Sometimes planning vacations can take so much effort and money, especially if you have few people in your life. Furthermore, when I became a parent, my family and friends told me that the vacations go down and the “family trips,” which still require you to be a parent (and therefore work), go up. So, I am a big fan of weekend getaways that are not too far from home. Leave the kids with a local family member or pay for a family member to come to you, and get away for a long weekend in a place not too far from where you live. My husband and I are headed to Asheville in early August, and we chose Asheville because it’s only 2 hours away from Charlotte and we will still feel like we are able to get away. It will be worth the investment!

  2. Take Advantage of Local, Freebie Activities. Sometimes we can put so much pressure on ourselves to have experiences and things that cost a lot of money because there is ascribed value to money. That said, summer fun need not burst your wallet. You can take advantage of family activities at the local library (a forgotten place these days), create a makeshift pool in the backyard, and partake in a simple BBQ at a park so you don’t have to clean up or check out the freebie sites in your local area. The point is simple - there’s plenty to do right where you are, especially if you are intentional about seeking out the experiences you want to have.

  3. Get the Help You Need.  Let me be honest - I have a problem asking for help. I suspect that I am not alone. Asking for help might free you up to indulge in something that’s been on your summer bucket list. You might need help getting your house in order or handling childcare responsibilities. Or, you might need more support at work so that you are not burnt out on the evenings or weekends. Either way, you will not get what you want if you don’t ask for help.

A Wealthy Girl Corner:

Ahead of National Parents Day this Sunday, I want to acknowledge the impactful role parents play in their kids' lives. Our children represent our most precious, intangible assets that generate wealth in our lives.

In case you didn’t know,  National Parents’ Day wasn’t established until 1994.  That’s when President Bill Clinton signed a Congressional Resolution “recognizing, uplifting, and supporting the role of parents in bringing up their children.”

My parents have been larger-than-life in my life, and thus today I salute them. Once a child, always a child, to a parent! My hope is that my husband and I can raise my child in an impactful way as well!

What do you owe your parents, and what do you want to impart to your children?
